The Wages of  Sincere Appreciation
      for  Enforced Minimum Wage!
Minimum Wage legislation has been a priority for the Democrat Political Party members since the first minimum wage legislation  of  President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Today,  Republican party legislators are believed  to  be  opposed to  increasing the Federal minimum wage  from $5.15 per hour.  Many editorials and letters to  the editor  express the opinion  that  this  is not adequate,  and  has not  been  adjusted  to  present conditions.  Several years  have elapsed  since  Sept. 1, 1997,  when  the current federal minimum wage was  set at  $5.15 per hour.
Poverty level income  is  $24,900  for  a  family unit  of  three people  (2006 Annual Low Income Levels).  $12.50  hourly wage  will  be  $25,000  family income  for  50 weeks  of  40 hours  per week.   [ Subsistence Wages ]
Suppose  that  Republicans  are willing  to learn  from  a clear demonstration  of  this initiative  of  the  newly-elected  majority  of  Democrat Representatives  and Senators?
Republicans  could promote  bi-partisan cooperation  and courtesy,  to  encourage  a  test  of  this  bold initiative.  They could  abstain  from voting,  or  obstruction,  and  politely focus  the appreciation  of  all Americans  on the humanitarian leaders  who conspire  to deliver  the American Dream!
This  proposal of  the Democrat Political Party—  is designed to improve the lives  of  all those who  could be employed  at the  “Living Wage”  of  $12.50 per hour.  This could provide a daily pay of  $100.00  for  an  eight hour work day!
The only other thing  necessary for a demonstration  of  this bold legislation,  is the freedom of  employers to embrace this deserved reward  for those who sweat and work so conscientiously  to produce the goods and services  we depend on.  It would hardly be a valid demonstration of  the benefits of  Federal (or State) Minimum Wage Legislation,  if penalties against employers are enforced  when they manage their best,  and fail to achieve what is expected of  them.  This is easily accomplished by repeal of  any mandated severance payments,  or changes in the payroll taxation for Unemployment compensation.
The opportunity  is at hand—  to demonstrate the great improvement  of  workers’  justly deserved share  of  great productivity.  Doubters  and obstructors  can abstain from  this visionary scheme  for increasing Minimum Wage pay.   Withholding  EARNED rewards  will  motivate workers  to  withdraw their labors,  and  achieve justice  with  more generous Employers.   Or,  the  additional burden  of  pay increases  will  bleed  vitality  from those  generous Employers.   Justice  can  be tested  by  voluntary  market agreements.
